Ruth King Hyde
(1818-1913)

Ruth King Hyde is the great grandmother of Rachel Wilcox Liberacki.

Ruth King Hyde was born in Marcellus, New York on 10 May 1818. We are not sure when she moved to Michigan. On 17 June 1844, she married Lorenzo Mudge, one of the first settlers in Barry County. Lorenzo's first wife had died six months earlier.

Ruth was active in the Methodist Episcopal Church. We know that she was a member of the Castleton Class of the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1849.1 In addition to her church involvement, by 1880 she was a member of the Barry County Pioneer Society.

By 1850, Ruth was living in Woodland, Michigan. By 1860, the family had moved to Castleton, Michigan where she remained until sometime after 1880.

In 1900, Ruth was living in Hastings, Michigan with her daughter Helen, son-in-law Edgar Y. Hogle, and three grandchildren: Sterling, Clare, and Loyd. Jay Edmunds, a hired man, completed the household. The 1900 census includes the fact that Ruth had given birth to seven children, five of whom were still living.2

In 1910, Ruth was living in Duplain, Michigan with her daughter Allie and son-in-law David Austin.

Ruth died on 12 January 1913.

1The historical record is fairly silent on Ruth's church involvement. However, given the evidence of her membership in the Castleton class, we can assume that she shares her husband's activities in the church; activities for which there is a record and which are outlined in his profile.

2Although I list eight children for Ruth, I am inclined to believe the 1900 census record. I suspect that Maria is a nickname for Miriam, but have decided to keep her listed as a separate child while my research continues.
